Who are we?

IES Miguel de Unamuno is a historical state high school in Bilbao (Basque Country, Spain) with 800 students, 104 paid teachers, 15 non-teaching workers and 2 language assistants (British and French). It offers Secondary Education & Baccalaureate in Humanities and Sciences.

The school offers multilingual education through CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning). Most subjects are taught in Basque, and some in English. In addition to this, students must learn Spanish, and they have some optional languages such as: Latin, Ancient Greek, German and French.

The information and communication technologies (ICT) are the essential pillars for learning. The 1:1 digital devices project has long been implemented in the school where every student has access to an iPad.

The school has a strong commitment with the methodological innovation focused on the significant learning through projects (PbL), cooperative work, and cross-curricular teaching (Crosscut) through eTwinning (IES Unamuno has the eTwinning school label, ID 204666).

One of the main objectives of IES Unamuno is the internationalization as a means of supporting CLIL methodology and guaranteeing the acquisition of the multicultural competence on the part of the whole school community. That way, the school yearly organizes cultural student-exchanges with other European schools and is currently participating in four Erasmus+ /eTwinning projects.
